Exam success is only one of a range of benchmarks to measure progress in a child’s education. For students who become demoralised due to poor exam results, it’s important to rebuild their confidence with one of the many other measures available.

Praise for small successes are hugely effective, and each small step back onto the road to success should be celebrated. For some students it might simply be ‘turning up’ or ‘having a go’ or spotting an inclination or aptitude in one subject and encouraging them in that direction, and using the confidence-building triumphs in that area before moving onto subjects at which they may show less ability.
